Why I'm Making “Zero Work, 100% OFF” My New Non-Negotiable

A few months ago, I made a resolution for myself and started implementing it immediately.

Looking forward at 2025, I have a lot of things I’m excited for – and I mean REALLY excited. But if I’m going to get there with continued enthusiasm and without dropping the ball, I’ve got to start respecting my boundaries a heck of a lot more.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’d tell myself I’ll work “just a few hours” over the weekend. But that stops NOW!

The pledge I made to myself was absolutely, positively no more working on the weekends. I am off the clock, and that is my “me time”. Zero work, zero stress. 100% OFF! Because as business leaders – doesn't that sound like Elysium?

But this is where it gets tricky:

It takes conscious effort, accountability, and self-love. What does that actually mean? It means no more sneaky peaks at emails (put a screen time block on your email if you must!). It also means that you have to take your weekend as seriously as a work meeting. If you wouldn’t just ignore a meeting, then you can’t just ignore the time that brings you joy and comfort – we are people first after all. And lastly, it’s worth taking the self-love; you deserve it. What’s the point of working hard if you don’t get to see it pay off?

Truthfully – has it been easy these last few months? Absolutely not. Have I messed up and will I continue to mess up? For sure!

But that’s part of the beauty of it. The TRYING! And even if I only manage to uphold this resolution 50% of the time, it’s still 50% more often than I was. My mantra is “progress, not perfection” and if I can make progress, then I’m succeeding!
