The Secret to GSD – Part 2 of 2: Excel is my BFF
Excel just became my BFF. I mean, I've always liked it, but we've taken our friendship to the next level.
I recently found myself juggling the largest client roster I've ever had at once (I know, good problem to have!). But honestly? The workload was starting to feel overwhelming! My trusty pen-and-paper lists and daily sticky notes weren't cutting it anymore – I needed to level up to make sure I wasn’t dropping any of these balls.
Enter my surprisingly simple Excel system that's been a total game-changer:
My Spreadsheet Columns
The MVPs of the Sheet
Filtering – I can sort by client or due date for super focused work sessions, or check who's handling what when I need to touch base with team members about their workload.
Print view – I set a print area for a two-week view and keep it in front of me for daily planning, satisfying my old-school paper preference while maintaining digital efficiency.
My pro tips: Print your two-week view each morning, update at your end of day, and review your upcoming week Sunday evening to set yourself up for a powerful Monday start.
When managing multiple long-term projects, simpler is better. This approach keeps everything straight while remaining functional and efficient.
Sometimes the best solutions aren't fancy apps – just clever uses of tools you already have!
