Turning Fear into Excitement: Your Best Business Decision Ever!
I recently did something that was equal parts exciting and nerve-wracking: I hosted my first ever webinar on your best team kickoff meeting ever. It was new. It was unfamiliar. And it pushed me out of my comfort zone.
And you know what? I survived! And I think it actually went well.
So why am I sharing this? Because there's a business strategy lesson buried in that experience: Do the scary thing.
I can recognize that’s not easy advice. It’s one thing to tell someone else “Just jump into the pool! I promise it’s not filled with spiders!” and it’s another thing to actually jump into the pool that, who knows, might be filled with spiders (even if you know that it’s somewhat of an irrational fear).
The spark that allows you to take that business leap of faith is all in decision-making. You can set a goal for yourself all you want, but it’s too easy to come up with obstacles and excuses. The dreaded “well, I can’t start now because...” It’s easier said than done, but you can’t plan for everything. The timing will probably never be “perfect.” You have to make the decision that your brilliant idea is worth the growing pains. And as Nike says, “just do it.”
When we make decisions in business, it’s tempting to chase the “safe” options – the well-trodden path. But meaningful growth lives just beyond that comfort zone. The right strategic decisions often come with butterflies in your stomach.
So, whether it’s launching a new product, restructuring your team, or saying yes to a bold new idea – don’t let fear be the reason you say no. Let it be the reason you lean in.
Because fear doesn’t mean stop. It might actually mean go.
